I like Murakami books. Like, a lot. A lot of other people seem to as well; he’s pretty popular. I think that’s a good sign. Here’s one I’m reading now.
I’ve always liked the protagonists of Murakami books. I wish I were like Watanabe, from Norwegian Wood or Kafka, from Kafka on the Shore.
Just what is it with all of this pop culture, anyways?

Anonymous asked: Why don't you love me?

I just don’t know if I can trust anyone who didn’t tell me their name, you know? We need some mutual trust to make this work.

But if you told me your name I would love you. Carnally.

I think that one of the major barriers that blocks out good writing is the feeling that you have to make sense

But I am not a writer and so I do not know

I became obsessed with the Modest Mouse cover of “Sleepwalking” without realizing at all that it was a cover. Here’s the original, and I honestly can’t say which one I like more. The Modest Mouse lyrics are beautifully simplistic and generally fantastic, but this version is so much more musical. The slide guitar is *Total Vocabulary Failure*, and I love the organ, too.

The Modest Mouse guitar has a really cool feel to it, too; both the rhythm guitar arpeggios with that classic old school vibrato and the dreamy, simplistic lead guitar. With the Modest Mouse version, I get a stronger feeling of hazy, dreamy simplicity and repetitiveness. The original is much more melodic.

But I don’t know.

I like the fact that Modest Mouse covered this, though. I don’t know about anyone else, but Modest Mouse kind of gives me the same feel as a lot of these old, slow, 1950’s ballads.

I fell in love and I needed a road map to find out

where you lived, so excited now.

Sleepwalking, ‘cause I’m sleepwalking.

White trash boys, they listen to their headphones

blasting white noise in the convenient store parking lots

I hung around there, wasting my time, hoping you’d stop by.

Because I’m sleepwalking, I’m sleepwalking.

A mutual friend’s parents left town for the week, so we raided out the liquor stash

and walked down to the riverside.

Sleepwalking, ‘cause I’m sleepwalking.
